It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Terence “Terry” McManus. Loving husband to Irene, dedicated father to Teevan (Anne), Johanna (RJ) and Anthony McManus and devoted Papa to his grandchildren, Benjamin, Stella, and Lucy. Predeceased by his mother and father, Norma and Dr. Joseph Forde McManus and his brother Anthony “Tony” McManus.

Terry (Daddy) had a way of making the ordinary moments, extraordinary.  A sunset, a walk in the woods, birds chirping or having a look at the moon brightening up the night sky – the simple things in life brought him the most pleasure.

One of Terry’s greatest loves was his music and he dedicated much of his life to creativity and expression. He was a teacher and a mentor to so many. He founded the Songwriter’s Association of Canada and for 40 years taught hundreds of students in the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe.

He began his career as a singer-songwriter and while he had some early success in the industry, he turned down the opportunity for a record deal in New York to be in Canada with his family, who meant more to him than the chance at stardom.

Terry always had his priorities straight, and that was to love, support and guide his family.  His presence was a safe haven.

Without fail, Terry showed up every morning rain or shine to walk his grandchildren to school.  With a smile on his face, a skip in his step, and peppermints in his pocket, he faced life with eternal optimism, to live each day like it was your last.  In one of his recent songs he writes, “here is here, gone is gone, live your life, don’t wait too long”. He taught us countless life lessons but most important was to lead with love in your heart. Love first – always.
