I was a student of Terry's from 1989 to 1991. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. He was a dedicated and special instructor who was always willing to give of his time, talent and expertise to anyone who asked. Terry was both honest and constructive. He always found a way to offer a truthful opinion and yet still be supportive. He was also both insightful and funny in the classroom. I have many memories of laughter in his classroom. I'm sure he will be missed by hundreds of former students.

Dear Irene and family,
I was a student of Terry's in the MIA program class of 1974. Terry was a wonderful teacher and an amazing musician. He touched my life with his positive energy and I only have fond memories of him and my time at school. I hope that the pain of his loss will fade with time and you can look back on your time together with fondness.
Warmest regards,
John Carey

Our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to Terry’s family. He taught two of our children and was always interested in their careers way past the days when he taught them. He was very supportive of them and followed their careers to the very end. Irene-he was one exceptional and caring human being! May the memories you have of Terry help see you through this very difficult time. May he Rest In Peace.

Dear Irene and family… we’re thinking of you during this difficult time and send our deepest condolences. Terry was such a talented musician… we loved listening to Scrub-a-dub-U when the kids were little. Adnan only met him once, but really connected with him over their shared love of music. We’re so sorry for your loss. Love, Sandra, Adnan, Matteo and Elias

My sincere condolences to Irene and family. I am honoured to call Terry my friend. I knew him back in the good old “Vancouver days” long before MIA. We had such a good time at Fanshawe College. He was such a great teacher. I will always treasure my fond memories of him and the other faculty “family members" who have passed on.

My condolences to Terry McManus’s family, friends and to the many who loved him and treasured his friendship, wisdom and his love as something sacred in their lives.
Terry appeared at the very front of the classroom of life. His presence was like that of a tall gentle wizard with a magical voice. When he spoke, his infectious personality and his words penetrated your heart and echoed in the back of your mind, forever. Terry understood and appreciated the most detailed nuances of musical artistic expression, even in the most esoteric and unconventional musical forms. His insight into what you were doing and what you were trying to express artistically was brilliant.
You know, I never expected to meet anyone like Terry who made it part of his life’s mission to help me and anyone else who expressed curiosity about how to connect the magic in our minds with the working world of magic.
Terry was fantastic.
Before class and long after class, Terry’s students would stand around in the hallways, the school cafeteria, and outside in the courtyard in the dead of winter, discussing everything that Terry said and invested into us. Terry’s class was never over.
Somehow, Terry found a way to make what was supposed to be a mundane business course into a fascinating world of drama, memorable characters, conflict & tension, beguiling beginnings, deepening plots and knock out one-liner endings.
If Terry saw you falling asleep in class because you were working in the recording studio in the wee hours of the morning before class, he would kick the metal garbage can at the front of the class, just to wake you up long enough to hold your attention for the things he said. He knew that you would need them, not only to pass the exam but for life. His wisdom was unique to him. Things our parents never taught us that were critical to survival and to living a good life, whether music was to be a part of it, or not.
Terry taught me resilience. He proved to me and others that hard work without expectation was the way. He taught me never to compare myself to others but instead to find out what I had to offer and to “get busy” working on that.
Your waves of generosity and kindness have changed the tides. Every life you touched has touched thousands more. Thank you for everything magical you gave us in this life. You were a righteous man and a beauty Terry.

Dear Irene,
It was a shock when I woke up this morning to hear that Terry has left us.
On December 16th he wrote about Ann Murray and his life in the music business. I read a lot of the comments. Most of them were filled with thanks to have had Terry in their lives.. mine included.
As many have stated he was very generous with his time. He knew and understood the complexities of the music industry. You must be so proud, Irene, that he has touched so many lives. There are a huge number of people who have gone onto successful careers in a very challenging profession who all owe a dept of gratitude to your husband.
Terry's heart was a big one. He saved me big time travel costs from BC by accepting me into MIA over the phone where most people had to find their way to London for an interview and audition. I know how you both loved your BC vacations and we had planned to get together on your trip two years ago until Covid hit. I was honoured when Terry asked me to play bass on his children's album that we recorded at Springfield. We rehearsed at you home and one night had me over for dinner where I had a chance to meet you Irene.
Facebook has kept us in touch and about a year and a half back Terry and I were exchanging compositions. He made some great Production suggestions on a song that when I think of it is rather poignant. It's about the loss of a grandparent and reflections on how precious family is.
I seem to have always had my camera with me back in the day 1979-81 and have this picture of Terry in Studio A at Fanshawe. (March 24 1981)
My sincere condolences to you, the kids and those grandkids, all of whom Terry loved so much.

Terry was a great teacher, an incredible mentor, and a true friend to countless people who were lucky enough to be in his orbit. Personally I will be forever grateful for his mentorship and wise counsel, not only at Fanshawe but throughout my career since. In my final year of MIA Terry recommended me for a part time job as sound mixer and DJ at the Sorpio Nightclub in the Ramada Inn. That job enabled me to stay in school that year.
I will miss his relentless positivity, enthusiasm, sense of humour, and most of all his friendship.

I was one of Terry's students from '99-'01 and will always remember his kindness, calmness and wisdom. Not to mention when he would point his index finger upwards whenever something he was saying was important and would probably be on an upcoming test.
Even though contracts was a difficult course for me, he was such a joy to have as a teacher and an all around pleasant guy to be around. And like Dylan Robson said, he really did make you feel like you mattered.
His birthday fell one day before mine.
I picture him joining a big jam session with Jack, Jan, Bill, Dustin and all of the greats...
Heaven has gained another angel!

When I attended Fanshawe college in 2008/2009 I had an exceptionally kind hearted and devoted professor, Terry McManus who not only taught us the ins and outs of music business, songwriting and contracts but encouraged us to be good people and develop and find success in our own unique ways. He was the kind of guy who always had a twinkle of enthusiasm in his eye and was open and expressive in his teaching style, sharing personal and enriching life stories along the way and placing great emphasis on the importance of relationships. Outside of class I used to run into him while working at Zellers masonville many moons ago. Though he had 1000s of students over the years he had a presence about him; calm, never rushed. He made you feel that you mattered. That you were valued and had worthy gifts to share with the world. It is with great sadness I hear of Terry's passing. He truly touched the lives of so many! Thank you Terry for your dedication, kindness and positive influence. It will not soon be forgotten!

One of the most important things Terry ever taught me was contracts. I savoured every tidbit of information and when I had a large government tender to work on, I did not feel intimidated by the language in it. He will be missed by many.

We are heartbroken learning the news of Terry's passing. He was in our lives for over 40 years. He inspired us as our teacher at Fanshawe, shared in our successes, attended our wedding, kissed our newborn baby in one of his lectures, mentored our careers and was a kind and generous friend. He was engaged, passionate and inspired by his family, his love of music, his devotion to mentorship and life-long learning. He seemed a much younger man. His teachings, friendship and mentorship will live forever in the hearts and in the music of those he inspired. Heartfelt condolences to Irene and family.

Terry was my teach at Fanshawe for MIA in 2008-09. He told me once that he saw me having a studio in a school and teaching kids how to record music. Well low and behold I became a teacher a couple years ago and just got a Long Term teaching music. I found a free digital audio workstation that I was showing kids how to use. I wanted to reach out to Terry and tell him how right he was about me and how he helped me get there. He was easily the best teacher I ever had. I wish I got to tell him but I guess I’ll have to talk to him in my prayers instead. Rest In Peace Terry, you will be very missed.

Dear Irene, Johanna, Anthony and family,
We are heartbroken to hear you have lost Terry and we share in your grief. Terry was such a lovely man. We think of all the times we ran into him on his frequent jogs in the neighbourhood and he would always stop for a chat, or we would see him at church, or with his beloved grandchildren at school. He always had time to share a warm greeting. A truly wonderful man with a big heart and a kind gentle spirit. We are deeply sorry for your loss.

Terry was truly a man of faith. Although we only communicated over Facebook it was clear to see his love for God and keeping Christ and his Catholic faith in the middle of everything. I am saddened by his sudden death. But rejoice that he is now in his true home, Heaven. Reunited with his family and I guarantee praying for all of you. I will remember Terry at all my masses over these next days. God Bless.

Terry, Brian and I, 3 cousins born within a couple of months of each other. I alone survive to tell the world we have lost a gentle, talented man. He was loyal and supportive of my writing and my dance with Parkinson's. For 75 years we shared this planet and the world is less with his loss. I will miss him and the tear I am shedding and the prayer I am offering are to say goodbye to a soul who could aways make laugh. I can hear his lively giggles even in the darkness. RIP old friend
