Sister Mary Talpas, CSJ
The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada announce the peaceful death of their dear Sister Mary Talpas on March 1, 2021 in the care centre at the residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 485 Windermere Road, London, ON.
Mary Margaret Talpas was born on February 13, 1933 in Merlin, Ontario and joined the Sisters of St. Joseph on June 29, 1950. She is remembered with affection by her CSJ Sisters, her beloved sister Jean Golias and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Joseph Talpas and Julia Petrik, brothers George (Doris) Talpas, Joseph (Virginia) Talpas, sister Helen (Mike) Polachok and brother-in-law John Golias.
Sister Mary, earlier known as Sister Assumpta, lived in London, Sarnia and Windsor during her 30 years as a secondary school French and Spanish teacher and guidance counsellor. She especially enjoyed time spent in Ottawa from 1988 to 1990 obtaining her master’s degree in Canon Law and in Toronto where she worked for ten years as a canon lawyer for the Catholic Marriage Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Toronto. Upon her return to Windsor, Mary worked remotely for the Catholic Marriage Tribunal of Nelson B.C. She was a hospice volunteer and earlier was a board member of the Roman Catholic Children’s Aid Society’s R.J. Bondy Centre in Windsor.
Mary loved life and was intellectually gifted. She appreciated art, literature and poetry and followed the success of many sports’ teams. She treasured family visits and living community life.
Public visitation will take place at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo St. London, ON, on Thursday, March 4 from 1:00-3:00 pm. COVID-19 protocols will be in place. Please register for visitation by e-mailing donohue@donohuefuneralhome.ca.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private vigil service will be held at the residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph on Thursday evening. On Friday March 5th, a funeral liturgy will be celebrated in the chapel at 11 am.
