It must have been the luck of the Irish that fortuitously brought the Crilly family into our lives. Moving from Montreal to take a teaching position at RMC, Michael was alerted by his Irish principal, to the presence of another Omagh, Co Tyrone man in London! That initial connection spawned a bond of lasting intimate friendship.
Michael, an unrepentant, proud Irishman was a master of the ancient Irish tradition of lyrical story telling. With flair, rapier wit and erudtion, he entertained all, family, friends and his devoted students, with his limitless supply of engaging anecdotes, famous quotes and good Craic, occasionally with a wee dram of Irish whiskey in hand! Michael was kind and considerate, with never a harsh word passing his lips.
If " death is not an end but a rebirth", Michael, is, indubitably, keeping new friends enthralled with good fun and stories in the great Beyond!
Michael.....anam cara.....much loved, never far away.

We are grieving a wonderful human being in Michael Crilly.
He shared a common delight, his treasured granddaughter, Cliona.
He shared a glass of wine (or two), with family and friends.
He shared a few (hundred) stories of his beloved Omagh County.
He shared an interest in whatever you were up to, or not up to.
He shared his love, his wit, his knowledge, his political argument, his cheekiness and his compassion freely (and usually timely).
Sláinte, wherever you are Michael, raising a glass to the wonderful life you have lived.

I am very sorry to hear of "Uncle Mike's" passing. I called my Dad's cousin Uncle Mike throughout my childhood and always looked forward to seeing him.
I woke up a week ago thinking about Uncle Mike, how he got me a small souvenir baseball bat at an Expos game in the 70s with my Dad. The bat is still by my bedside table to this day, funny enough. I thought of how he let me drive his car when I was about 9 or 10 while sitting on his lap down some dirt road, one of the most memorable moments of my young life. The times he and my Dad Joe would smoke a pipe and just hang out as cousins. I then got up, picked my phone up and saw the note that he had passed away. I found it very strange, spiritual, and sad since I had no knowledge of Mike's passing.
I am left thankfully with the knowledge that there is a spirit that lives and a happiness that follows that spirit with the kind memories I will cherish of "Uncle Mike".
My heartfelt condolences.

My deepest condolences to the family of a great man and one of the truly fantastic teachers of all time. I have many fond memories of Mr. Crilly and credit him with making my high school experience one full of laughter, support and fun. He gifted me with a love of history and the travel bug, right along with thirst of knowledge to seek out the more in the world. I still have a copy of Catherine the Great he gave me and will read it again with the fondest of those memories.

I taught at Regina Mundi College with Mike, and enjoyed every minute of his company. He had a fine, burnished sense of humour, wide and deep learning, and we shared a home province in Northern Ireland. This gave us insights peculiar to Ulster! May Mike rest in peace, the just reward of a good person who added value to every company he joined.
We send our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Maura, Deirdre and Clíona,
We are so devastated and heartbroken by Michael’s death.
This evening Mum and I are reminiscing over old photographs of your many trips home over the years.
We know you loved coming home to Ireland and we were always delighted to see you both.
Uncle Michael was great company.
He was a wonderful, warm, gentle person and always keen to share in all the families’ news.
We are thinking of you during this time and hope you are comforted by the love you all shared.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all three of you during this difficult time .
May He support us
all the day long till the
shades lengthen and
the evening comes and the
busy world is hushed and
the fever of life is over
and our work is done:
then in His mercy may He
give us a safe lodging and
a Holy rest in peace at
the last.

Mike & I grew up about 250 metres from each other, he a couple of years ahead of me. Although our schooling choices were very different, in different institutions, we knew one another rather better than to just say "hello" to. He was a good lad growing up, and fun to be around.
Then our paths diverted until I was transferred to London in '84, where we resumed our friendship. It was a blast! Mike had earned the love of a wonderful woman and together they parented a delightful child whom they clearly loved to distraction. They were all a delight to be around.
Mike had a sense of humour (picture well chosen, it captures him well) and a great talent for reasoned argument, which he much enjoyed employing. He was loyal, hospitable and generous, when at his best, he was the best.
Maire, Deirdre, Kyle & Cliona, know that your loss is shared my many more than you think. Our deepest condolences.
Jimmy (& Pat) Mullan, Toronto
