Obituary of Mervin Francis Burgard

After a life well lived, on Monday August 7th, 2017, in his 81st year, Merv moved on to his next great adventure. He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 53 years Sheila, his loving children Chris Burgard, Lisa Jenings (Jim), Cathy Adams (David) and his adored granddaughter Claire Adams. He will be missed by many close friends and relatives. Merv was an avid reader, who was rarely seen without a good book in his hands. He took great pleasure in beating his wife at a game of backgammon, and was a well-respected lawyer who refused to retire even up to the end. He will be remembered for his sense of humour and generous spirit. As per Merv's request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. The family will hold a private memorial on Merv's favourite beach in Naples, Florida at a later date. Always the life of the party, Merv would want everyone to enjoy a glass of their favourite cocktail, share a fond memory of him and give a big hug to your loved ones. Many thanks to the wonderful healthcare team in the Cardiac Unit at University Hospital for the excellent care that you gave to him during his last few days. A special thanks to Cheryl Shavalier for all of her love and support for Merv and the family.
