Obituary of Maria Johanna Ten Kate

TEN KATE, Maria "Mary" Johanna (nee Van Bussel) – Died peacefully on Monday, January 9th, 2016, at St. Joseph's Hospice, London, Ontario, in her 82nd year. Beloved caring wife of John Ten Kate. Loving mother of Maria Riggin (Robin), Catharina Young, and the late Warner Ten Kate. Dear Oma of Ben, Daniel and Joel Riggin, Alex, Ian and Graeme Young, and Rachael and Lauren Ten Kate. Dear sister of Tina Van Boxmeer (Harry), Joanne Smulders (Tony), Jim Van Bussel (Cathy), Elizabeth Roestenberg (Jeff), Helmi Kaufmann (John), and Helen McHenry (Brian). Dear sister-in-law to Wilma Van Bussel, Berny Van Bussel, Cathy Van Bussel and Joe Czikk; Gerry and Peter Salome, Dieuwke and Dino Ledeboer, and Godard and Monique Ten Kate. Predeceased by her parents, Gerarda and Franciscus Van Bussel, and granddaughters Christian Riggin and Laura Young. Also predeceased by brothers Gerry, Jack, and Christian, sisters Catherine and Sharon, brothers-in-law Gerry Hilhorst and Warner Ten Kate, and sister-in-law Pauline Ten Kate. Mary will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Mary graduated as a Registered Nursing Assistant, and worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs and London Health Sciences Centre. Mary was a dedicated volunteer and quilter, and will be missed by her many friends at the Dorchester Senior Centre and the Val Griffiths Branch of the IODE. The family would like to thank all our relatives and friends, as well as the staff of St. Joseph's Hospice and the CCAC for all their care and support. Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Wednesday, January 11th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Justin's Church, 855 Jalna Boulevard, on Thursday morning at 11 o'clock. Cremation has taken place. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Mary are asked to consider the Dorchester Senior Centre or St. Joseph's Hospice.
