Obituary of Ilario Daniele
With his daughter, Teresa, by his side, Ilario Daniele died peacefully at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario on the afternoon of Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the age of 83. Known simply as "Larry" to most of his friends, his love for his native homeland, Italy, still permeated his life in Canada even decades after his resettlement. Indeed, there was a little piece of his mother country that he also took with him when he left this earth.
He will most be remembered for his love of music, cinema, food, and in particular for his fondness of small dogs and other wildlife creatures from which he derived much joy. He followed the news quite religiously, and was never left wanting for an opinion on current affairs or politics. He enjoyed a similarly keen interest in following professional sports which he also shared with his daughter. Larry possessed a wry but robust sense of humour that would occasionally animate his normally reserved personality, yet he fiercely cherished his independence and solitude above all else, which was often punctuated by the long walks he would take around his neighbourhood, or along the sandy beaches of his adopted village of Roccella, Italy to which he returned a handful of times on extended trips every few years. His introverted character lives on through his daughter who shares her father's quiet, analytical disposition and cerebral habits. Predeceased by his siblings, Francesco and Italia, and his beloved mother, Teresa—with whom he shared a powerful bond—Larry leaves behind many relatives in Italy, including his loving sister, Roma, and his favourite nephew, Antonio.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the wonderful team of health providers at LHSC, in particular those from Victoria Hospital who took such good care of Larry until the very end. He will be greatly missed by those whom he came into contact with.
