Obituary of William Francis Quann
William Francis Quann
We celebrate the life of William "Bill" Francis Quann, 84, of London, Ontario. Who passed away on 26 February 2016
Bill was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia to the late John and Gladys (Atkinson) Quann. Bill was a loving husband, father, foster-father, grandfather and brother, uncle. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in August of 1949 and served his country as a Korean veteran, soldier and peace keeper with the First Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment. He served throughout Canada and around the world until his retirement in December 1981. He then returned to work for the Canadian Government as a civilian giving a total of 45 years of service.
Bill was more than a soldier and peace keeper. Bill met Teresa and swept her off her feet at a Catholic Church Dance. Bill could dance. Bill and Teresa became parents to 2 daughters, and foster parents to 12 more children. Bill and Teresa said they fostered children because they had so much to be thankful for and wanted to give back in some way for all they had. Bill enjoyed sports. At various points in his life he was a boxer, a marathon runner, a badminton and table tennis player. As an active Roman Catholic, he volunteered in many activities in London and wherever he found himself serving with the Canadian Forces. His children will always remember him for reading wonderful bedtime stories each night he was home, being interested and active in their lives. A love that will be remembered.
A historian and avid reader of all things history, Bill could have easily won many Trivial Pursuit contests. He was also a Cape Breton card shark. When asked about his card playing skills he stated he learned all "his winning tricks" from his Granny Atkinson in Cape Breton as a child.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Teresa (Manders), his children, Maureen Giberson and husband Rob and his children Adrian and Sapphire; Lesa van Loon and her husband John and their children, Jessica, Thea and Johannes; Stacey Gaiga and her husband Franco; and Christopher Laye; care-giver and good friend Lani Madlangsakay; brother Mickey Quann and sisters Gladys Aucoin and Florence Denomme; Bill was predeceased by brothers Robert, Francis, John and sisters Edith, Phoebe, Jane and Genevieve and his son-in-law Paul Demers.
Visitors will be received at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362
Waterloo Street at King Street, on Wednesday March 2, 2016 from 2-4 and
7-9 o'clock. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Church, 377
Oakland Avenue, on Thursday morning at 11 o'clock. Interment in St.
Peter's Cemetery. Prayers Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Special thanks to the caregivers from St Elizabeth's home first program and the VON. Also we would like to thank all the people who helped care for Bill at Marion Villa.
If desired, charitable donations can be made in Bill's memory to the Alzheimer Society or any charitable organization of your choice.»(Do not delete this line. It does not print. Text that is to appear on web must be entered before this line)
