Mark and Sarah,
My family and I are deeply saddened by the passing of your dad. He and I had been social work colleagues for many years, delivering care to adults and adolescents struggling with a great variety of mental health issues. During this time I came to know him as a very sensitive, caring and compassionate person who was truly committed to his service to humanity. He will be missed for his interesting and medicinal sense of humour, his wit, wisdom and his friendship. As you mourn his loss, be mindful of his tremendous contributions to the wellbeing of others. Be mindful, also, of the fact that he is now at peace in the arms of his Saviour. I pray that this, along with the other beautiful memories he has created, will be a solace to you as you move forward with your lives.

Hello Sarah and Mark,
I am sure you won't remember me - I taught with your mother at Girls' Catholic Central High School in Detroit. She and I became great friends - and later with my husband - the four of us had great times together. Phil told the worst jokes but we all laughed our butts of at them - I was glad to read in the obituary that remained one of his memorable habits. He loved to laugh - and Mary Sue would bark at him between snorts of laughter. I remember how they welcomed both of you into their home and how excited they were to be parents. Even though I moved from Michigan to Colorado, and did not see them often - I considered them true friends and I was very saddened when Mary Sue died. It was in thinking about her that I looked Phil up on line and realized that I had missed him by only a few days. He and I talked about friendship and I realized I have lost now 2 good friends of my younger days.
But you have now lost both of your parents - which is a giant shift in your lives. I strongly believe that our loved ones hover to make sure that we continue on the best path possible for ourselves. Know that they are with you - and I will hold you both in the space that they have occupied in my heart for many years. My deepest sympathy to you both.
Sincerely,
Hilary DePolo
And "how'bout those Lions?? -I know Phil is cheering them on - along with my late brother who was also a faithful fan for more years than I can count!
