Obituary of Nancy Ellen Ray
With saddened hearts, we bid farewell to Nancy Ellen Ray, who after a long illness was taken from us. Nancy was born on January 30, 1965, in Edmonton, Alberta and passed away in the early hours on August 31, 2024, at the University Hospital in London, Ontario. Nancy left us too soon, but she had a happy and adventurous life, and brought joy to family and friends across Canada. She also shared her love of literature and learning with many students in Alberta, Yellowknife and northern Quebec. Nancy was a graduate of McGill University (Bachelor of Arts in English Literature), the University of Western Ontario (Master of Arts in English Literature) and the University of Alberta (Bachelor of Education). She is survived by sister Dr. Heather Susan Ray of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, sister Laurel Ray Nandkeolyar and brother-in-law Shailendra Nandkeolyar of Atlanta, Georgia, niece Olivia Rose Nandkeolyar of New York City, nephew Sebastian Rhett Nandkeolyar of San Diego, California, dear friend Julie Gibson of London, Ontario and many other relatives and friends. Nancy was predeceased by her father Dr. Douglas William Ray of Edmonton, Alberta and mother Eleanor Frances Ray of London, Ontario. Nancy was the principal caregiver for her mother for many years. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 11th at Mount Pleasant Cemetery at 390 Oxford Street West in London, Ontario. The Internment will be held at 12:30 at the cemetery, followed by a service and celebration of life at the Chapel and Reception Hall. We would like to thank the staff of Cheshire Independent Living Services who assisted Nancy at her residence. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and other staff at the University Hospital for their kindness, support and care for Nancy over the past four months. In Nancy’s memory, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Southwestern Ontario.
