Obituary of Anna Jolana Kovacic

Anna Jolana Kovacic passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2023 in the 92nd year of her life.  When told “you’re close to heaven now mom” a few days ago, her unresponsive face broke out in the most beautiful smile.  Grace is everywhere. 

Anna was born on June 3, 1932 in Bratislava, to the late Augustin Drobny and Irena Beňušková.  Her childhood was marked by WWII in Slovakia, followed by years of communism and a decision to flee in 1971 with her husband Albin and children Roman and Eva.  She is predeceased by her parents, husband Albin (2015), youngest son Michael (2016) and sister Maria Tomaškova of Bratislava (2021). 

Anna’s strong faith and absolute trust in God’s love and care, her sense of humor and joy, keen interest in Slovak and world events, history, politics, and the sacredness of life inspired many prayers and 40 years in the Catholic Women’s League, and London Multicultural Community and work in the Canadian Slovak League.

Grateful for her life and mourning her passing is son Roman, grandson Augustin, daughter Eva and son-in-law Scott Lee, and daughter-in-law Danielle of Hobart, Tasmania, relatives and friends in Canada and Slovakia. 

Thank you to Dr. Sugimoto and Dr. Safdari for many years of care and the St. Joseph’s Hospice Care of London, Ontario for their excellent palliative care.  Many thanks to St. Michael’s Parish in London, Ontario, a source of spiritual support and friendship since 1972.

Visitors will be received at St. Michael’s Parish, 511 Cheapside Street, on Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 10:00am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00am.  Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.  In Lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Anna to St. Michael's Parish or St. Peter's Seminary would be appreciated by the family.
