Ma très chère Cécile,
C'est avec une profonde tristesse que Jocelyne et moi avons appris le départ de ton cher époux.
Malgré qu'on n'ait pas eu le plaisir de le connaître personnellement, on est de tout coeur avec toi, ainsi que avec tous les membres de vos familles dans cette épreuve.

Heartfelt Sympathy to Cècile & the Mellamphy Family on the death of Ninian, We will treasure the memories of his many visits to us in Waterville, as children when he would come visit our Mom & her sisters in Beenbane where he & Brendan spent their early years with our Grandmother , then in recent years he & Cecile would come stay with Joe & I at our home in Toor , & on our trips to Toronto we would visit them in their home in London Ont. where we would get a Céad Míle Fáilte.

Ninian was a devoted member of the “Thursday Zoomers” originating in Ballygriffin, Killavullen, Ireland during COVID. He brought great knowledge, good humour, integrity, affirmation and enjoyment on a regular basis over the last three years and we shall miss him dearly. To Cecile and his extended family we offer our deepest prayerful sympathy. You will surely have wonderful memories to sustain you in the days to come. Ninian definitely leaves his part of the world and his many former students the better for having known him.

Our condolences to you all on the loss of Ninian. He was a wonderful man, a great character as we would say in Ireland. He spend some of his childhood years in Waterville Co. Kerry, a place for which he had great affection. He will be missed but his positive influence on this world, and on those whom he encountered along the way, will live on as a wonderful legacy. May he rest in peace.

I wanted to express my sincerest condolences to Ninian's wife, his children (I went through high school with Janelle), and the rest of the family. I enjoyed Ninian's company at the Baconian Society (Club) for the last 20 years and found him to be a wonderful man, full of kindness to others, who enjoyed intellectual conversation, and was a joy to be in the club with him. I had last seen him in April and little knew that that would be the last time to enjoy his company. I know that he deeply loved his family and that he will be missed by a huge number of people. If I was not away for work on Monday and Tuesday, I certainly would have attended the funeral home/funeral to show my support. I hope that the family, while this is an extremely sad time for them, will have some solace in the fact that Ninian was a person loved by so many.

I have known Ninian for over 40 years when I met him and Cécile as the parents of my students, Daniel and Janelle. Years later, my husband and I would see him at the annual UWO President receptions for Professors Emeriti and at the monthly meetings of the Retired Academics Group where his wit and golden tongue excelled at introducing our various speakers. The past year I have had the pleasure of seeing him three times a week at the RRA (a senior fitness group) that met early in the morning at Western’s Arena. His friendly cheerfulness and interesting conversions will be greatly missed.
My heartfelt condolences to Cécile and all his children.

I have tried using the link on the Donahue website to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation but am being given the link to Heart Links, and, when I tried it again, I ended up with several other different charities. As I am a regular donor to Heart and Stroke Foundation, I will use the address I have at home and indicate it is in honour of Ninian Mellamphy.

It was a delight to share the locker room at Sunningdale Golf Club with Ninian. He never failed to regale us with vivid and humorous tales , in his unforgettable Irish brogue. His presence with his golfing buddies will be sorely missed. Our condolences to his family.

I wanted to express condolences on behalf of myself and my mom. My mom was a caretaker at Western for 30 years. She cleaned the faculty offices in the evening and met Ninian when she cleaned his office. In her words he was the nicest person she ever met. I also met him as I was a student at Western and would meet up with my mom to drive home after her shift. Ninian was always interested in how my studies were coming along. When we bumped into him at the grocery store, he always stopped to say hello and we always had a laugh. What an amazing person he was, we are happy to have had the pleasure of meeting him. Sending hugs and our deepest sympathy
