Obituary of Ken Schmit

SCHMIT, Ken on April 27, 2023, at the age of 90. He leaves behind his favourite pen pal, his one true love of 68 years, his wife, Carla. Together, they lived a happy life with family and friends, house moves (so many moves!) travel, countless celebrations, music, wine and laughter.
 

Ken lived a good life, only suffering ill health in his last few years. Failing memory could not take away his love and pride for those that mattered most; his “Pukkie”, their 7 children Doreen, Gerry (Laurie), Marcia (John), Carolyn (Paul), Neil (Colleen), Bev (Vince) and Paul (Rose), his 19 grandchildren and (almost) 5 great-grandchildren. He so loved being their Opa.
 

He will be missed here by his brothers Herman and Paul and his sister Willy while Miep, Ginie, Peter, Thea and Marcelle will greet him with open arms.
 

Dad found great success in business throughout his life but was most proud of his last big venture, a company he owned and shared with Mom, Schmit Apparel Manufacturing.
With a sparkle in his eye, Ken would often answer the question, “What do you do for a living?” with the reply “I’m in women’s lingerie”. His quick wit and masterful piano skills will stay with us forever.
 

We would like to thank the London Home Palliative Team and the Palliative Care Team on C6 at Victoria Hospital for their exceptional and compassionate care of our Ken. You helped our family through a very difficult time.
