Obituary of Ida Marie Winter
WINTER, IDA MARIE
At Mount Hope, on February 10, 2021, Ida Marie Winter died peacefully at the age of 98. Survived by her beloved sister Katherine (Katie). Predeceased by her parents, Katherine (Rezman) and Stephen Winter. Ida was born in Hungary October 8, 1922, with the family emigrating to Canada when Ida and Katie were still young. In 1954 Ida graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital as a Registered Nurse, where she then worked for many years, becoming a very caring and capable head nurse. When she wasn’t working, Ida loved to travel to other countries around the world, taking numerous photos to capture the many breathtaking sights. When at home, she surrounded herself with classical music, art (both her own and that of the masters) and good books. She also enjoyed making beautiful clothing for herself, as well as for her mother and sister. In retirement, Ida found great joy in volunteering with schoolchildren. After their parents’ deaths, Ida and Katie lived in the family home until two years ago when they both moved to Mount Hope. We would like to express gratitude to the staff of Marian Villa 4 for their care and kindness to Ida and their continuing support of Katie. Due to COVID-19, there will be no visitation or funeral mass at this time. Graveside prayers will be conducted at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 806 Victoria Street, on Thursday morning, February 18th, at 10 o’clock by Father Adam Gabriel of St. Patrick’s Church, where Ida and Katie were longtime parishioners. Ida generously supported many charities over many years. Those who knew Ida may wish to make a donation in her memory to a charity of your choice. (John T. Donohue Funeral Home)
