Obituary of Grace D'Avirro

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 in her 89th year. Loving wife of the late Giuseppe "Joe" D'Avirro (2001). Beloved mother of Maria, Nick and Rosa who will love her to the end and cherish each moment they had with her. Cherished sister of Orazio Comes (Lina), Assunta Comes (Piero), and Rosetta Comes. Sister-in-law of Brent Evely, Sante Profenna, Guy D'Avirro (Franca), Bunny D'Avirro (Ray) and Gina Comes. Predeceased by parents Rosa and Giambattista Comes, mother-in-law Maria D’Avirro, siblings Lina (Gabriele) Tauro, Marino, Nina, Onofrio and Franco Comes and brother-in-law Eugene D'Avirro and sister-in-law Nives Profenna. Loving aunt to many nieces, nephews. Emigrating to Canada in 1961 she met and married the love of her life and along with dad provided her family and left them wanting for nothing. Known as the family cook, she made the best bread, focaccia and pasta you could hope to have. If mom loved you, you were loved for life. Thank you to all of her friends, she loved you all!! A special thank you to the teams that helped to care for mom over the past 4 months. Along with dealing with the pressures of this pandemic, these special caregivers (our heros) have gone above and beyond to help mom and our family with her dementia diagnosis. Parkwood Geriatrics, Victoria Hospital, University Hospital and The Manor Village, each playing an important role in mom’s care! You have restored our faith in humankind. Thank you to our work families for your constant support. To our family, words cannot express our gratitude and love. When we’ve beaten this pandemic, we’ll have a huge spaghettata!! Family and friends are welcome for visitation at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Friday, July 31, 2020 from 2-2:45, 3-4 and 7 – 7:45 and 8-9 o’clock. Prayers at 7 o'clock. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, as per the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, a limited number of people are able to attend each visitation period and service. Please email donohue@donohuefuneralhome.ca with your time preference. Funeral Mass will be by invitation only. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the St. John the Divine Church Building Fund.
