My deepest, heartfelt condolences to Pat and family. I first met John when he was a seminarian at St Peter`s Seminary, London. We belonged to a special group of friends, and many of these have stayed in touch for over 47 years. John had a real heart for the oppressed and Native people and worked one summer at the Native Friendship Centre [ 1969] in London. I had the privilege of attending his wedding to Pat in Quebec, John developed the biggest smile that day which was still visible many years later at the mention of his wife or boys. John fought the long battle of illness with grace and patience. His faith increased as his energy decreased. We`ll miss you, dear friend. The best years are yours now and forever, in Heaven. "Well done good and faithful servant"

It is with great sadness that we learned of John's passing. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.Unfortunately I never got to meet John personally but knew him well online as we shared the passion of finding out about our ancestors(Maria Elizabeth Weiler was my 3rd great grandmother )and his research in Maryhill. He always took the time to answer any questions and would apologize saying he wasn't feeling well and that he'll look up something for me.Through his emails I could tell by their tone that he was something very special, kind, selfless and giving.I know you all are a great family and know the memories and love you all share will give you peace and comfort.God Bless John and all of you!

Our entire family is sad to learn about John. He was a man of many facets: a proud husband, father and grandfather; a writer, philosopher and deep thinker - a true artist. I will fondly remember him for his unyielding integrity, his perseverance in spite of his disabilities… and one very special discussion about theology! John was a unique individual and will be missed.

It was such a gift to have known John for some thirty years - we would have wanted to take away his fatigue, however he dealt with it like a warrior by training for marathons and never give up. He inspired us with his courage and determination. We will miss him forever. May a choir of angels come to greet him.
