Obituary of John Patrick Kirwin

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Patrick Thomas Kirwin (April 1, 1966 - December 30, 2024), proud father of Eric, Emma, and Erin Kirwin, loving partner of Cathy Ross, beloved son of James and Maureen Kirwin and brother of David (Janice) Kirwin, Michael (Kathy) Kirwin, Noreen (Brad) Donnell and Christopher Kirwin.  Dedicated ‘fun-cle’ to his nieces and nephews – Ellen, Kyle, Brock, Ben, Sam, Patrick, Megan, Kai, Connor, and Finn.  Remembered fondly by Sarah and Shaun Tucker (Avery and Jack), Jason Lyons and by Cathy’s children, Julia and Colin.

John grew up in Chatham, Ontario and was a graduate of Tecumseh Secondary School. At 17, to avoid detasseling corn for another summer, John joined the MNR Junior Rangers and fell in love with the great outdoors.

After graduating from University of Guelph with a degree in Resource Management, John began his professional career with TransCanada Pipelines and Union Gas, continued with Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline, and recently retired from Banister Pipelines where he served as Corporate Health, Safety & Environment Manager.

His family and friends will miss John’s talent for story-lengthening, sarcastic humour, ‘creative’ songwriting for all/any occasions (3 chords maximum), and most recently experimental cooking and online shopping. A Bob Dylan fanatic, John attended many concerts and never met a Dylan lyric he would not quote.

John, true to form, made his last exit an Irish one, passing away suddenly from natural causes, and leaving us with many, many wonderful memories.  We will always miss and love you.

Cremation with a private family service was held.

"Friends and family are invited to join us for a Celebration of John's Life to be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 501 (Lambeth), 7097 Kilbourne Rd, London, ON N6P 1R2 - Lower level, from 1 to 4 pm, with comments and music taking place from 2:15 PM to 3:00 PM. This will be a time to share memories, listen to heartfelt music, and honor John's legacy."

John had many pets over his lifetime including Buddy, Spot, Alex, and Maggie.  In lieu of flowers, and in memory of John, donations may be made to the Humane Society of London and Middlesex (www.hslm.ca).
