My sincere condolences go out to the Vita family. Mike was a tremendous man who had the Vita heart-always open and healing. I have incredible memories from playing in the band with Mike in high school until his later life. He took Frank and I under his musical wing and we played around town for awhile. But the real magic was that Mike was like a second father to me. Always there with his ear
offering me guiding advice. I have many wonderful memories of musical adventures, cottage time and just being there as a friend. I miss those times but the memories of Mike will live on in my heart.
May Mike rest in peace.

One day, Raymond and Mike were on an outing with the alter boys of St. Joseph’s Church and a priest, to go to a Detroit Tigers baseball game in Detroit. We were about 9 or 10 years old. We got bored at the game, so Mike and I (alone) toured the the city of Detroit for over an hour (circa 1960). We went back to the game and no one noticed that we had been gone!

Joan and family, I am so very sad to read about Mike's passing. He was my mentor in Special Education and taught me how to approach difficult situations with kindness and compassion because that is what he did every single day of his career. Our condolences and heartfelt sympathy for you Joan, your own family & Frank. We’ve experienced many fun trips and joyous occasions and will cherish all those moments.
And always the Best was watching Mike on a drum or two in his later years as we never got to experience the Famous Mike in the earlier years. Love & prayers to all of you. Mike was definitely a kind , gentle soul.

Mike, you were in every sense of the word like a true brother to Valerie and I and uncle to each of our kids. Words cannot adequately describe the influence you have had on us all.
It was always a highlight coming to London to be in your and your family’s company. You hosted us every Easter weekend when the kids were younger, and we all came to celebrate together with the Vitas. You invited us to your cottage, which in itself facilitated a deep cousin-cousin bond between our kids, that will endure forever.
We cherished every second of your company. The memories are numerous and joyful. Music was a constant companion as we sang together, played together, danced together always joking, always laughing. Our shared love of art and music was the topic of so many conversations between us. Most importantly, your wisdom and guidance was a constant source of inspiration for us.
We will miss you so much, Mike, but we will be eternally grateful for the most powerful gift of love that you bestowed upon us.

My deepest condolences to the entire Vita family. I have many wonderful memories of Sunday dinners at the Vita home, where I was so graciously included. On many occasions, Mike took on a big brother role, offering advice, helping me shop for a car and, I believe teaching me to drive a standard shift. I was lucky enough to be in the audience for a few musical gigs (perhaps to stack the crowd?). He too was a great host. When each of had a new baby, both named Matthew, he got Joan and I connected for Mom & baby outings.
His journey, and your journey at his side, has been challenging. You will be in my thoughts and prayers as you celebrate his life and find a new path with him in your hearts. Cathie Kissick
