I will always have happy memories of Uncle Joe. When I was a young girl, Uncle Joe taught me how to do the 'cha cha". He was a fabulous dancer. At family weddings and parties, we always danced together and he made me feel very special. My loving Uncle Joe will be sadly missed by myself and my family. Aunt Mary and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love Lorna, Rudy and Lindsay

Joe and I were good friends when we both served on London's City Council. We were, for the most part along with Orlando Zamprogna, the Italian bunch on an otherwise WASP council.
He was always great to work with and, together, we pushed through a number of propjects that still benefit London like The Guy Lombardo Bridge and the Hyde Park Bridge come to mind.
After we both left city polotics and I moved to Grand Bend, we kept in touch by email on a variety of subjects. I will miss his quick humour and inciteful comments.
May I express to Joe's wife Mary and to his family my deepest condolences at your loss. I regret that prior commitments will make impossible for me to attend either the visitation or the funeral Mass.

To the entire Avola family - our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I have been recalling with fondness my memories of Joe Sr. and the infectious smile and laughter I would see and hear during the many times I was welcomed so warmly into your home. I have also been reflecting on how we used to visit him downtown while on lunch at highschool and distinctly remember always leaving these encounters feeling enriched and energized by the experience. We wish you peace. Matt and Carol

Uncle Joe possessed the greatest fun factor and sense of cool for us growing up. He taught us to laugh harder, prank liberally, love well, and always find a song that fit the occasion. We used to always tell him when he left for the drive home...'Uncle Joe forever"... Indeed in our hearts, and stories shall be rich... Much love and heart feelings to Aunt Mary , cousins Anthony, Joseph, Mary Theresa, their families , and all members of their fathers wonderful legacy.......

From all the Avola's it is with great love and respespect, uncle Joe was always someone to talk to, to joke with and to make you laugh. He was always more in to giving and helping, than taking and really showed us all how to live life on ones own terms. Thanks uncle Joe for the laughs the fun and the memories you made with us. Aunt Mary and family, you have our love and blessings during this difficult time. God Bless and keep you all.

I am so sorry for your loss. Years ago when I was a child I lived near the Avola's. Joe always made me smile. He loved his kids so much. I knew Joe and Anthony but I didnt know their sister. When I saw the obituary I was so sad. He was a wonderful man. Once again I am so sorry for your loss.

To Mary, Tony and Joe - I will forever remember my friendship with Joe and cherish the guidance, direction and political insight he gave me in my job with Downtown London and life in general. Joe was a very special man with an incredibly strong sense of loyalty, integrity and humor in all things personal, political and charitable. He was a major player for all things related to Downtown London in the 1980s and his legacy continues. I loved him as a mentor and a friend. Loving thoughts and prayers to the whole family.
