My sister, Marie, was one of 4 siblings. We grew up in a place that was considered by many as not the best place to be, but we thrived and believed it to be home We were a family of many tribulations but a family that loved each other completely. We had a mother that was strong and determined to bring up her children with compassion and spirit and to be hard working and valued people. I am happy to say that she did a good job. Because my mother worked to help keep the family afloat (living with an alcholic father who we loved just the same), Marie had to step up and take on many of her roles. I considered her to be like a second mother to me and not only did I love her as a sister, I also loved her like a mother. Marie and I have always had a special relationship and I will miss that with all my heart. And, although she and her family lived away from us, we still remained close. I will miss our long phone conversations and laughs and tears, but I will keep her in my heart forever. Her family will keep her spirit alive and keep her memory close to us because, like my mother, she instilled love, dignity, and strength in them too. My love for them will keep my sister alive. Love to Dave, Alan, Lynn, Jacob, and Kristin. Aunt Susie and family.

Nini, Bill and Susie, I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved sister Marie. Know that she thought of you often and loved each one of you dearly; I gave her a hug and a kiss and told her how much you all loved her. In early November I made a visit to see my sister not knowing what to expect due to her condition. I was treated to a couple of hours or more of just her and I at the kitchen table, (like most maritimers) talking of things I never knew about her. You see, Marie and I had a few years difference in age and different endeavours. She dug out a treasure trove of history from her closet in the kitchen with surprising enthusiasm. She shared, family history, recipe's, pictures etc. She also told stories of her younger days in school, both good and devious, but funny things. We laughed a lot, but did not cry. She found the strength that night to be with me and showed she was my big sister. Over the years that could be forgotten, but it all came back that night.I had a memorable and welcoming visit with Marie and her family.
