Obituary of Louise Zadel

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louise (Alojzija) Zadel (nee Markovic) at St. Joseph's Hospice in London on Friday June 20th in her 97th year. Dearly loved mother of Frank and his wife Mary, Louise, and Joseph and his wife Veronica. Dear grandmother of Mark, Andrew, Lydia, Leah and her husband Michael, and Stephen; great-grandmother of Sophia and Claudia. Beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews in Canada and abroad. Her love, generosity and her warm "welcome to my home" will be greatly missed and never forgotten. She is predeceased by her husband Frank 31 years ago, eight of her siblings of Slovenia and her brother Bert of Toronto. Louise was born in a small town in Slovenia in 1918 into a family of 10 children. She married Frank Zadel in 1942. They had 3 children. Frank left Slovenia (Yugoslavia) in 1945 at the end of the war. Louise followed her husband with her family in 1957 and moved to Wortley Village in London where she spent the rest of her life. Shortly after arriving in Canada she started working at St. Joseph Hospital where she worked for 14 years. In 1971 she decided to change jobs and move to the University of Western Ontario retiring in 1983. Her approach to life was hard work, honesty and generosity. She had many friends here and in Slovenia and was a member of the London Slovenian Club for 50+ years. Her passion was gardening; she would proudly show off her harvest. Louise generously shared the fruits of her labour with friends and family. She traveled back home often and was proud to say that she visited her siblings in Slovenia 22 times. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the compassionate volunteers, nurses and staff at St. Joseph's Hospice for their very professional and dedicated care. We also wish to extend our special thanks to Dr. Joshua Shadd for his attentive care and the guidance he provided to the family. Louise was the first resident at the new St. Joseph's Hospice on Windermere Rd. The tireless and loving care Louise received at the Hospice will always be appreciated by the family. We also wish to thank Dr. Kirk Hamilton and CCAC staff for their help and support while we cared for Louise at home. Friends will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 o'clock. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis - St. Martin Catholic Church, 46 Cathcart Street, London, on Wednesday at 10 o'clock. Prayers Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Joseph's Hospice, London.
