My condolences to the family of Phyllis Statchuk, she was a great fellow worker but a better friend. She convinced me "chasing the millions" (lotto) was about the dreaming not about the odds, and brought a youthful spirit to work that I admired everyday.

Uncle Maurice, cousins Barry, Deb, Darren, Brent and families. I am so sorry for your loss. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Aunty Phyl was her smile. She is now smiling down on you and watching over you all. Hugs and condolences. Love Darlene

My thoughts are with you family during the loss of Phyllis. She was a beautiful, caring woman who was so strong until the end. George worked with Phyllis at the Chamber of Commerce until his passing, and always admired her kind spirit and dedication to the Chamber. I was a member of Huron Theatre Guild with her. She will be missed by many. Rest in Peace Phyllis49.

Dear Maurice and family I am so very sorry for your loss. Phyllis was a lovely and brave lady who bore her pain and suffering with dignity. We volunteered together at the tourism office and became good friends. My grandson, Andrew Smith, was a student worker there also and he was very fond of Phyllis. I trust that your happy memories will sustain you at this time. Sincere condolences. Carole MacDougall

With very little time available to spend with the out-going Grand Bend & Area Chamber of Commerce manager, my training as the new, incoming Chamber Manager consisted of long conversations with Phyllis about what and how things were done. With ten years of volunteer service at the Welcome Centre in Grand Bend, Phyllis was able to fill me in on everything from area attractions, Chamber Members, event and community history and much more.
Phyllis was my right hand! In effect, she trained me.
Every Tuesday, Phyllis would arrive promptly at Noon to cover off a full afternoon of doing whatever was needed to keep the Welcome Centre up-to-date, organized and humming along. I looked forward to her arrival every week - not just for all the help she willingly gave - but to hear about the latest news in Phyllis' family life and the community at large. As an active resident in a number of local community groups, Phyllis was plugged into the Grand Bend Area grapevine and often updated me on the local goings on.
Phyllis loved to learn about people - whether they were our summer students or area visitors and tourists or new residents. She could quickly ask our visitors 20-questions to get their life history and discover their information needs and then provide the missing information. She always remembered what the summer students were taking at school and each summer asked for an update about how they were doing. Phyllis was definitely a people person and epitomized genuine customer service .
Our Chamber Members will be very familiar with Phyllis' phone calls to remind them of event dates and our need for silent auction and prize table items. Over the years, she made hundreds of phone calls - all with a smile in her voice and something to say to the phone call recipient.
I loved Phyllis' sense of humour - which was often very dry and we shared many amusing comments on life and office tasks. At the end of our working Tuesdays, she would say to me - "well I must be off to see what my husband is getting up to before he gets himself in trouble."
She was a joy to work with and a pleasure to know and I will miss her very much.

Phyllis was always concerned about my husband even though she was fighting her own fight at the same time. I will definitely miss her as we often sat together at playhouse lunches. Sleep well Phyllis and keep watching over your family.

Maurice and Family, We are truly sorry for your loss. We hope in time that the sadness you all feel will be replaced by heartfelt memories of Phyllis. We will miss her loving hugs, her interest in all the family and extended relations as she loved to inquire and make all of us feel special. Most of all we will miss her dry sense of humour. Be strong and know she is with you all. Love Steven & Linda
