My mum loved horses and spent many of her happiest and most peaceful hours in their company and like them, she spent much of her life champing at the bit and looking forward to a chance to light out for new adventures. Truth be told, she was not entirely pleased as she became increasingly more frail and her body slowly betrayed her by first denying her balance and then her ability to walk. Not so her mind. It may have wandered from time to time, but it never lost its edge or wit when the occasion arose and it continued to serve her well until the day she died. Her passing was unexpected and immensely sad for those of us who now are left with only memories - but what a treasure trove of memories they are, and they will sustain and nourish us for all the days we have left.
