My mother was a strong believer in the power of prayer. She became famous in our family circle for having a 'direct pipeline' to Saint Anthony who I understand is the patron saint of lost things. Whenever something went missing and couldn't be found no matter how much searching was done, Mom would say a prayer to St. Anthony and low and behold the article would turn up. I can remember one time Tom lost his ring that was a keepsake from his father. We searched everywhere for days for the ring and couldn't find it. The last time he could remember wearing it was before he had gone over to the gym to workout. We searched all of his gym wear and his backpack and we rewalked the route to the gym and checked the change room and the lost and found. All to no avail ... finally Tom mentioned his dilemma to my mother and asked her to put a good word in for him to St. Anthony. About a week after she started her prayers, Tom put his hand into his backpack to get something and what did he find in the bottom but his ring. Some would say that he just missed not seeing it in the initial search but I can attest to the fact that we tore that backpack apart and could not find that ring. How did it get there? Who can say. All I know is that Mom had faith that if she asked St. Anthony the ring would be found and it was.
