Obituary of Luis Manuel Fonseca
Luis Manuel Fonseca Sr.
Born October 28th, 1948 in Chontales, Nicaragua. Died Suddenly on January 24th, 2008 while visiting his father and family in his homeland. He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Dina (Caldera) and six children: Son Manuel Jr. and wife Ana. daughter Irma and Burton, daughter Karla and Carlos G, and their son Cristian (2), daughter Gema and her husband Michael, and their children Lorenzo(12) and Matteo (4), daughter Sarai, and son Carlos and Jen. Beloved brother to Orlando, Lilian and sister-in-law Norma in Canada, and seven more siblings abroad. He will be greatly missed by his nieces Zeneyra, Jenniffer, Keyra, Melitza, Giselle and nephews Christopher, Aaron. Manuel, Leo, and Moises, among many others around the world. Manuel immigrated to Canada in 1986 at the age of 37 and has since been employed with Brouwer Plumbing and Heating in London, Ontario. In 1987 he founded the Nicarao Slo-pitch Team which he played for, coached and managed until his death. As one of the first Latin Americans in the London area, he brought his culture, foods and traditions to the London Community, helped many other families from Central America immigrate to the area, and continued to welcome Canadians and everyone into his life. The Nicarao Slo-Pitch team that began with only Latin American players has grown to include many Canadian players. Luis Manuel Fonseca will be remembered for being a hard worker, a fun loving man and a person who never hesitated to help those who needed it. His playful nature and fun personality will be missed by the many friends and others who had the privilege of knowing him. Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 o'clock. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Martin of Tours Church, 46 Cathcart Street, on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery. Prayers Friday evening at 8 o'clock. Donations to the Save a Family Plan c/o St. Peter's Seminary, 1040 Waterloo Street, London, would be appreciated.
