Obituary of Beverly Ann Smith

SMITH Beverly Ann (nee Brothers). It is with great sadness that we anounce the loss of our wife and mother Ann who passed unexpectedly but peacefully at home on May 25th. Ann will be deeply missed for her energy and exuberance for life, touching all who knew her. She was the loving wife of J. Frederick Smith with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of eight children; Paul, Sharon (deceased), Shawn, Ann, Gregory, David, Todd and Graham. Ann was a supportive mother-in-law to Faye, Bob, Ann, Murray, Josie, Kate, Jane and Melina. She passed with 14 loving grandchildren; Francesca, Cary, Abigail, Jacob, Lucas, Sam, Stevie, Cara, Dylan, Max, Chelsey, Ryan, Keira and Amy. She was the beloved sister and friend to Charles Brothers and his wife Beverly and their 5 daughters. Ann was born in Stratford in 1931 and persevered through a tough childhood in the 1930's and 40's. She completed a nursing degree at St. Joseph's in Toronto in 1953 and began a long career with the support of her husband and children. She even found the time to complete her BA at the age of 57. When some of the children left, often to return at some point, she helped to establish Future Forests working on relief projects in Ethiopia by setting up field hospitals and clinics in the worst of times for that country. She remained active until the end with community services, bridge, golf and the CWL. She never stopped giving. She recently fulfilled one of her lifelong dreams with a three week sojourn to Africa with Fred and good friends. Visitation will be held at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo St. (at King) London on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 o'clock. The Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Family Parish, 777 Valetta St. on Wedesday May 30, 2007 at 10 o'clock. Prayers Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock. Please do not send flowers as Ann always the pragmatist, would have preferred donations to the "Heart & Stroke", the Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
