Obituary of Mary Dietrich
DIETRICH, Mary Eleanor (McCarthy) died November 24, 2013 in her 95th year at Victoria
Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre, London, Ontario. Born in McGillivray
Township, Middlesex on January 8, 1919, the daughter of the late T. Joseph and Annie
(Boland) McCarthy. Mary graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing,
London, Ontario in 1942. She served in the Canadian Army as Lieutenant Nursing
Sister in the UK and Europe in 1945 and 1946. She nursed in Talera, Peru 1946-1948
and at New York Cornell Hospital for eight years. In 1956 she married
Eugene Cornelius Dietrich of Dashwood, Ontario in New York City and returned to
London, Ontario. She worked at St. Joseph's Hospital and retired in 1986 after which
she continued to nurse in the community. Mary was always liberal with her kindness and
nursed many family members and friends. She was a devoted mother, active in the
Nursing Sister's Association of Canada, St. Michael's Parish and had a passion for
travel. Mary is survived by her children Cecelia of London, Peter and Kathleen (McCabe) of
Oakville, and Timothy and Margot (Davis) of Halifax; her grandchildren Julia, Noah, and
Jonathan Wark, Genevieve and Cecelia, Peter, Robert and Warren; her sister-in-law
Sister Rita Dietrich, osu, and sister-in-law Martina (Dietrich) and brother-in-law Stephen
Dietrich and his wife Josephine and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased
by her brother James (Jimmy) and his wife Mary (Vanhie), her husband Eugene and his
siblings Mary, Benedict and his wife Mary (Glavin), Sister Dominica (Anna), osu, Hubert
Dietrich and his wife Joan (Regier), Louis Dietrich and brother-in-law Joseph Glavin husband of Martina. Relatives and friends are invited to the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo St, London, Friday, November 29, 2013, 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel. Interment will be in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery. Family, friends, staff, Legionnaires and volunteers of Parkwood Veterans Care are invited to join the family at a memorial to be held Friday, November 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in The Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Parkwood Veterans Care, Western Counties Wing, 801 Commissioners Rd.
