Sister Ann Purtill
At Ignatia Hall at Mount St. Joseph, on Thursday, November 6, 2003 Sister Ann Purtill (Sister Judith Ann) of the Community of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of London in her 71st year and her 49th year of religious life. Lovingly remembered by her brother Edwin (Joy), sisters Frances DeMarchi and Barbara MacNeil and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Purtill (Hugh) and Judy Purtill (Leo), many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and her faithful friend Sister Barbara Hughes. Predeceased by her parents Daniel and Rosemarie (Olmstead), her sister Mary Ellen Pensa, brothers Hugh and Leo Purtill. Sister Ann Purtill spent 30 years of her religious life in hospital administration in Sarnia and Chatham. Ann was known for her quiet and gentle manner, her wonderful sense of humour and her ability to see opportunities for ministry in unusual circumstances. With a keen interest in women's issues, Ann, following retirement from hospital administration pursued a degree in women studies at the University of Waterloo. In her second retirement, in 1992 Sister Ann, together with Sister Barbara Hughes began a new ministry at Marygrove in Aylmer where they offered hospitality and friendship to a variety of groups and private retreatants. Resting at Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse, 1486 Richmond Street, on Saturday November 8, 2003 from 7-9 pm, and Sunday November 9, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Vigil service at Mt. St. Joseph Motherhouse, 1486 Richmond Street, on Sunday November 9th, 2003 at 7:30 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Chapel, Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse, 1486 Richmond Street, on Monday November 10th at 10 am. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery following the Mass of the Resurrection.
