Obituary of Patrick Dominick Doyle
Doyle
Patrick D. Doyle, cherished husband of Olive Doyle, beloved father of Loreto, Bernadette (Berry), Fiona (Read), and Una, grandfather of Patrick and uncle to dozens (real and adopted), friend to many, died peacefully on vacation (of course!) in Calgary on June 29, 2000 at the age of 75. Patrick was born August 4, 1924 in Bagensltown, Carlow, Ireland. He spent his youth learning the brewing and horse racing businesses, and passed his love of horses to his granddaughter Rachel; he was always delighted to watch her jump. Olive and Patrick were married in Ireland in 1953 and moved their young family to Canada in 1958, where they raised their daughters to believe in equality, justice and freedom. Patrick's career as an internal auditor allowed him to practice his dual favourite pastimes--travelling and meeting people. After his retirement, he and Olive continued to travel extensively. Patrick will always be fondly remembered for his passion for reading and music, inherited by all of his children, for his courage and determination in times of hardship, and for his mischievous sense of humour. Those who knew him best knew that he was always a child at heart. Patrick was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, Lecturere of the 3rd Degree, and 4th Degree member of the Dormer assembly. He has always been of a charitable nature, but of the active hands on sort. He had a kind word and a helping hand for anyone who came in his path, was deeply religious, but endlessly accepting of others. He lived a fully involved life until the moment of his death, and his life will be celebrated by hundreds of relatives and friends around the world. In lieu of flowers Patrick would appreciate donations to the Canadian Diabetes Society, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society. HIs family and friends will mourn him in Calgary, and his Funeral Mass will be celebrated in London, on Monday July 10, 2000. His family wishes to thank the members of the Calgary Emergency Medical Services, Calgary Police Service, and Office of the Medical Examiner who came to our aid and comfort. All were extremely kind and thoughtful, and allowed Patrick's passing to remain a natural part of his life, as he would have wanted. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam d'ilis
