Obituary of Mary Margaret Matthews
MATTHEWS, Mary Margaret - With profound sadness, Mary Margaret's family acknowledges her passing on Saturday, January 12, 2013, but also gratefully celebrates the life she lived with us. In her 83rd year and surrounded by her family at the time of her death, she was the beloved wife of Lou for 60 years. Their marriage was truly an example of loving devotion, adoration and unfailing support to their three children. Mother of Jane and her partner Bruce Taylor of Thornbury, Ontario, Jim and his wife Sandra Banks of Toronto, Ontario, and Mike and his wife Angela of London. Loving grandmother of Ben, Eilish, Rachel and Juliana. Dear sister-in-law of Jerry and Angela Matthews of Guelph and Margaret Sullivan, also of Guelph. Mary Margaret is survived by several nieces and nephews whom she loved wholeheartedly. Predeceased by brothers-in-law Jack Sullivan and William (Bill) Matthews and sister-in-law Frances Matthews. Born in Seaforth, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Walsh) Cleary. For much of her life she had to contend with multiple sclerosis. In doing so, she demonstrated tremendous courage and resilience and was truly an inspiration to all who knew and loved her, as she handled her illness with great dignity and determination, an indomitable spirit throughout her life. Possessing an unconditional love for her family, she will be greatly missed, but her example will live on in our hearts. Family and friends are invited for visitation at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street (at King Street) on Thursday, January 17 from 7 - 9 p.m. and on Friday, January 18 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Prayers are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Justin's Catholic Church, 855 Jalna Blvd. Cremation and internment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada (Ontario branch) or a charity of your choice.
