Celeste D'Andrea

Obituary of Celeste Antonio D'Andrea

D’Andrea, Celeste Antonio

June 14, 1939 – August 26, 2024

With great sadness the family announces the passing of Celeste D’Andrea on August 26, 2024 with his family by his side.

He was the youngest of six children born to Agostino and Ines D’Andrea in Friuli (Italy). Preceded by his daughter Marla (1983), as well as his parents, four brothers, sister, niece (Monica) and nephew (Peter). Celeste is survived by Marinella, his loving wife of over 50 years, their son Mark, daughter-in-law Marnie and grandsons Evander and Ronan. He was a proud Nonu to his grandsons and a loving Zio to his nieces and nephews here in Canada (Doris, Christopher and Lisa) and the many nieces and nephews in Italy.

Celeste lived in Canada for over 60 years, working at London Steel (Russel Metals) for close to 40 of those years and playing soccer with various clubs, including many Italia Marconi Soccer Club teams, one of which was the 1966 Ontario Cup Champions. He enjoyed watching soccer (cheering for Juventus and Italy), Formula One (Ferrari) but saved his biggest cheers for teams his son or grandsons played on.

Over the last 30 years, he tended his home and gardens with almost the same hard work, devotion and love that he gave to his family.

His family would like to thank the Palliative Care team at University Hospital for their care and compassion.

Donations may be made to the Children’s Health Foundation.

A private family service will be held at John T. Donohue Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 3,  2024.  There will be a celebration of Celeste’s life held at a later date.
