Obituary of Clem Mercier

MERCIER, Clement (Clem)

Passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024 in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Nelly for 64 years. Loving father of Maria, Theresa (Tom), and the late Yolanda. Cherished grandfather (papa) of Jason, Aliesha, Jeffrey, Brittany, Xana, Jared, Josh, and Jaide. Great-grandfather of Tylene and Aiyana.

Clem was born in Quebec City on January 26, 1934, the youngest of four children. Clem served in the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada from 1956 to 1966. During that time, Clem was stationed in Germany, and on a weekend pass to Amsterdam, he met Nelly. They started their married life in Calgary and began a family. After leaving the military, Clem and Nelly returned to Amsterdam with Maria and Theresa, and added their “little Dutch” souvenir, Yolanda, to the family. In 1972, the family moved to Ontario where they would remain.

Papa was a quiet and reserved person who was deeply loved by his whole family. He is remembered for his love of classic western movies, black and white picture shows, and singing ‘Toora-Loora-Loora’ while rocking the children to sleep.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no public service. The family will hold a private celebration of his life.
