Obituary of Joseph Charles LaPorte
Joseph “Charles” LaPorte passed away peacefully on February 10th, 2024 at the age of 93 at home surrounded by his wife and daughters. Despite any pain he experienced in the last few weeks, Charles remained faithful and stayed strong until the end. A loving husband to his wonderful wife, Marie (Overholt) LaPorte often called his Sweet Marie, for over 70 years. A treasured father to his seven daughters, known as Charlie’s Angels, Bernie Valkenier (Max), Theresa Przewieda (Ted), Marilyn Stacey (Rob), Dianne Tellier (Paul), Yvonne Fotheringham (Gord), Janet Tingley (Steve) and Charlene Marsman (Arnie). A cherished grandfather (Pepee) to his 19 grandchildren; Christine (Matt), Alicia (Dave), Rob (Mallory), Tiffany (Jamie), Tanya (Jon), Danielle (Steve), Tricia (Matt), Steven, Ashley (Adam), Julie (Ryan), Kurtis, Tyler, Kevin (Jennie), Deanna, Michael, Paige, Luke and Carley And special great grandfather to 23 great grandchildren; Tyra, Ella, Gavin, Jaycob, Jayden, Noah, Reid, Charlie, Max, Arwen, Madyson, Jaxon, Joey, Cooper, Henry, Isabelle, Kenna, Johnny, Hazel, Emma, Kaden, Sophie and Daxton. A beloved brother to Bernadette LaPorte, Tony LaPorte, Bridget Overholt, Mary Ann Denomme (Tony), Angela Watson and Phil LaPorte (Patty) and brother-in-law to Paula LaPorte, Lillian LaPorte, Doreen Regier, Joe Overholt (Jan), Clarence Overholt (Theta) and Gerald Overholt (Ann). Remembered by his many nieces, nephews and their families.Predeceased by his brothers Isadore LaPorte and John LaPorte, his son-in-law Angelo Iarusso, his granddaughter Vanessa Fotheringham and all the deceased members of the LaPorte and Overholt family. Charles was a strong, hard working family man with a good sense of humour. He enjoyed playing cards. His favourite hockey team was the Montreal Canadiens and favourite baseball team was Toronto Blue Jays. Charles was a cancer survivor of 26 years. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. A special thank you to Dr. Andrew, Dr. Ed and Nurses Leah, Nancy and Linda for their wonderful at home palliative care and support provided during Charles' final days.
Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, London, on Thursday February 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 o’clock. Prayers will be held on Thursday February 15 at 3:30pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, 377 Oakland Ave, London Ontario, on Friday morning February 16 at 11 o’clock. Entombment at St. Peter's Cemetery, 806 Victoria St. in London Ontario at 12:30pm.
