Obituary of Julaine Tillmann

TILLMANN, Mary Julaine (nee Brophy)

May 10, 1932 – March 20, 2023 London, Ontario

After almost 91 years of a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our Julaine, Mom, Grandma, GJ, Belle-mere, Aunt Julie and friend to many.

She was the beloved wife of Peter F. Tillmann (1921-2002) for 49 years and the loving and cherished mother to Bob (Andrea), Nancy and Bob Russel, Janet and Graham Woodruff, Susan and Louis Bernier, Tom and Jane, Julaine and Bob MacNicol, Peter (Alita), Tricia and Michael Mercer; grandmother to David, Michael, Kelly, Mac , Cole, Hunter, Martha, Stephen, Alana, Ben, Josh, Chloë, Suzanne, Will, Robert, Robyn, Jamie, Tommy, Tyler, Jonathan, Peter, Scott, and Kate; great-grandmother to Lila, Maddie, Weston, and Ryder.  Predeceased by her brother Patrick and sister-in-law Noreen Brophy.

Julaine was born on May 10, 1932 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of John Wilbur and Anna May Brophy.  She graduated from the University of Western Ontario and made her home in London, Ontario.  In 1967, Julaine became a Canadian citizen.  While loving her new country she always kept a place in her heart for her American roots.

Julaine was a devoted wife who traveled the world with her husband, writing postcards to all eight children on every adventure, making new friends along the way and sharing memories in numerous photos and scrapbooks.  She was very talented creatively whether that be cooking and entertaining, needlework, detailing dollhouses, or decorating her home for celebrations. Always dressed impeccably, she took pleasure in finding the perfect shoes or accessory to make an outfit come together magnificently.  She took the same care in setting a table and loved nothing more than to have family or friends around it sharing stories and much-loved traditions.

Over the years, Julaine made deep and lasting friendships.  A second mother to many, she was an amazing listener to all who shared time with her.  Those who knew Julaine well, spoke of her love, knowledge and caring advice; a true life mentor.  We will greatly miss her gentle ear and measured guidance along with a good dose of laughter.

Julaine’s family meant absolutely everything to her. She leaves us knowing that she is loved immensely and will forever live in our hearts.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Julaine’s life at a visitation to be held at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo St. on Tuesday evening March 21st from 7-9 p.m.  A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Basilica, 196 Dufferin Avenue on Wednesday morning March 22nd at 10 a.m.
