Where to start.
Lois or as I would affectionately call her Grandma McHardy, although she technically wasn’t, was a warm, kind and accepting soul. She treated all with respect and dignity and modelled the behaviour of being “first class” for us all to learn from. She inspired many with her spirit to never stop living regardless of age and showed us that age didn’t define you.
I recall Grandma McHardy being asked, what’s her secret? This would have been when she was 94, was likely still driving her convertible and had a glass of red in her hand. Lois responded, never stop moving and never stop living the life you love. It was the perfect response.
I also recall seeing her around the same time in the grocery store stocking up on items likely for the Maple Leafs game that night. Admittedly I thought she might be lost but when I approached she instantly knew who I was and screamed my name “Luke! Such a handsome boy” and gave me a big hug and squeezed my cheeks. Something she did my entire life. She then shared with me, that she couldn’t believe Kadri would take such a silly penalty in such an important playoff game. We can see the love for the Leafs ran deep in the McHardy clan.
When reflecting on the life and the many interactions I had with Grandma McHardy I think of how fortunate I was to be exposed to such a lovely human and how I’m a better person because of her.
