John Blake Harper
June 3, 1928 – February 7, 2023
Barbara, Mary, and all member of their families are sad to announce the passing of their beloved brother and uncle John, who died at University Hospital, London Ontario. John began his adult life as a chemical engineer, after several years working in that capacity, he could no longer ignore a call from God to serve the Catholic Church. He was ordained a priest in 1958 and led the Catholic community faithfully in several communities. Once again he was called by God to be a priest and teacher when the Minor Seminary was opened at the present day Regina Mundi College. He was highly admired by staff and students for his professionalism and his wonderful ability to open the hearts, minds, and souls of his students to the wonders of the world God had created.
He retired after almost twenty five years but continued to serve in parishes where a need arose. Shortly after his sister Ann lost her husband he took responsibility for her care until her passing in March 2021, his life was a life of well lived service to others and is now being rewarded by God our heavenly father.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in the chapel at Windermere on the Mount at 11:00am on Tuesday February 14, 2023, interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers in John’s own words “just keep smiling.” He will be missed by many friends.
The family would like to thank all of the personnel at Windermere on the Mount for their kindness, cheerfulness, and care.
