Obituary of Dinnie Greenway

Alice Dorinda (Dinnie) Brickenden, Hall-Holland, Fuller, Greenway passed away peacefully at Richmond Woods, London, Ontario on January 31st, 2023 in her 103rd year. Predeceased by her husbands, W.H. Hall-Holland, O.M. Fuller and Robert Greenway. Mother of Dee Lewis, Gray Hall-Holland, Kelly Hall-Holland and step children; Elizabeth and Martha, Liz, Mark, Kate, Jim and Walt. Grandmother of 10 grandchildren, David Lewis (Kristen), Kailey Lewis-Grujic (Alan), Suzie Lewis, Liz Lewis-Milijasevic (Steve), Debbie McNair (Grant), Andrew Hall-Holland (Angela), Naomi Cerswell, Michale Cerswell, Leysa Cerswell-Kielburger (Craig), Andrea Cerswell-Fehr (Stefan). Great Grandmother of 15 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great, Great Grandchildren.

Our Mother was an accomplished international equestrian both in competition and centre ring as a judge of every breed and discipline of horses. Brickenden Stables (Dinnie and family) have been breeding and developing Canadian Sport Horses since 1926. “They are one of the foundation families, if not the foundation family, of the horse show world” said Olympic gold medalist Jim Elder (Mexico ‘68). Dinnie’s horses have represented Canada internationally including the Olympics and Pan American Games and are still winning.

Dinnie founded the London Pony Club in 1940 with volunteers teaching young riders to care for, compete and enjoy horses. She was a member of the Trident Investment Club, London Hunt and the Country Club, on the Board of Governors for Guelph University, Honorary Director of Western Fair and Lifetime Governor of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Dinnie sponsored the Brickenden Award for theatrical excellence in London Community Theatre over two decades. The Dorinda Greenway Award was named to honour Mom's support of the McCormick Home founded by her Great Great Grandfather, Thomas McCormick and is awarded to a staff member for further geriatric education. Dinnie was a Director of Western University's Partners in Research, Guelph University Equine Research, delivered Meals On Wheels for 20 years and helped innumerable other Foundations.
