Obituary of Marinus Haasen

Haasen, Marinus

Born in the Netherlands on September 19th , 1924. Surrounded by loved ones, Marinus Haasen passed away peacefully on November 25th 2022, in his 99th year. Beloved husband of his wife Anna for 58 years (predeceased July 2nd, 2011), for whom he loved dearly, “Morris” and Anna immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1953 to give their future children “a better life”. Morris exemplified how to combine family with fun. He enjoyed being outdoors; early on packing his Delta 88, trailer, and family of 7 to provincial parks across Ontario, and later joining Sugarbush campground for years of shuffleboard, campfires, and the odd cold ‘Blue’. Morris loved to socialize with friends and family, dominated in euchre and bocce ball, and treated everyone to his infectious smile. He worked hard  to raise and support his five children and loved his career as a stone mason/ bricklayer, having the ability to create masonry art in the fireplaces he constructed.  “Opa” loved his children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by John (Ellen) Rosemary, (David), Bernice (David) and Marvin and his grandchildren Katrina, Anna (Roy) and the late Johanna (1985), Jessica, Colin, Jacqui, Lauryn, Luke and Corinne. He has now joined his wife Anna and their predeceased son Henry (1994) in Heaven. Morris received spectacular care at St. Joseph’s Health Care (Mount Hope) in London from both the SM2 team as well as his companions Herm, Rahima and Valerie all of whom added a tremendous amount of love and compassion to his end of life care. Due to the ongoing concerns regarding Covid and other respiratory diseases, and associated risks, there will be a small memorial for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated for the Mount Hope Centre of Long Term Care Wishing Well Program (St Joseph’s Health Care Foundation London) an innovative program that grants wishes to Residents of Mount Hope reminding them it is never too late to wish and have dreams.
