With broken hearts we announce the passing of our dear father, Elia (Leo) Giuseppe De Summa, at the age of 92 on Sunday October 16, 2022. Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, Nonno, and Bisnonno.
Elia was predeceased by his wife of 61 years Letizia (nee Lo Russo) De Summa in 2021.
Elia was the son of the late Antonio and Giovanna De Summa and son-in-law of the late Giovambattista and Maria Lo Russo.
Loving father of the late Tony De Summa (1993), Joanne Serra (Dino), John De Summa (Barb), and Leo De Summa.
Adored Nonno of Angela Provily (Kyle), Michael Serra (Shyla), Daniel De Summa, Matthew De Summa (Abbey), Nicholas De Summa (Alexandra), Reid Forster, Matthew Forster (Sarah).
Proud Bisnonno of Scottie and Wells Provily.
Beloved brother of the late Maria Bartoch (late Rudolf), Gioconda Pileggi (late Carmelo), and the late Filippo De Summa.
Beloved brother-in-law of the late Elia Lo Russo (Diamante) of Italy, Maria De Summa (late Georgio), the late Vittorio Lo Russo (Sara), Elisabetta Mazza (Raffaele), the late Esterina Sorrenti (Alessandro) of Italy, Giovanna Colafati (Telesio) of Italy, and Quintino Lo Russo (Eleonora) of Italy.
Nonno was affectionately known as Mr. Fix It. In his garage he had every tool imaginable. From toys, to plumbing, electrical motors, and everything in between, he could fix it. His grandchildren knew that if they broke something, Nonno would fix it. They will also forever hold on to fond memories of Nonno’s garden and making tomato sauce.
Uncle Leo will be missed by his many nieces and nephews in Canada, USA and Italy.
Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Wednesday, October 19th from 1:30-3:30 and 7-9 o'clock. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church, 345 Lyle Street, on Thursday morning, October 20th at 11 o'clock. Entombment in Holy Family Mausoleum, St. Peter's Cemetery.
