Obituary of Anne Marie Garvey

It is with great remorse that we announce the passing Meike Garvey. Her most admirable qualities carried her through each stage of her life.

Her strong sense of values, being kindness, sincerity, compassion and her appreciation of family, friends, children and grandchildren were well developed in the early years by her parents Willem and Jacoba van der Wel and modelled by caring sister Jane White and brother Bill van der Wel.

Meike was born August 23, 1955 in Campbellford Ontario, moved to Norwood and then on to Peterborough.

In 1974 she married her love, Charlie Garvey, and took her most admirable qualities to Almonte Ontario. There she began her real job giving birth to her three incredible children, Graham, Sarah and Tamarra.

After ten great years the family moved home to Peterborough as the lure of close family always called.

The business world called next and the family moved on to London in 1989. There Meike brought her tremendous personality and skill set to work distributing the Canadian Scholarship Trust Plan to young families while wholly believing education was the future.

While in London she beamed with pride as her family grew. Grandchildren arrived in short order with 3 in Calgary, Kareck, Ayanna and Eva to proud parents Tanya and Graham. In London Sarah and husband Chris Muldowney gave her two more in Cian and Lillian. Tamarra and husband Bill Mitches followed suit with three more, Jane, Charlie and Georgia.

Of the children and grandchildren she was immensely proud. In each of there lives Meike made a difference, always supportive, but never in the way. She took great pride in being part of lives.

In her short life she accomplished much and in her mind the glass was always half full.

Meike passed away on July 7th, 2022 and there are no words to express how much she will be missed. She can rest knowing the values she passed forward will help keep the family united and strong.

On August 13, 2022 an open visitation will occur between 9 am and 10:30 am, followed by a celebration of Meike’s life until 11:15 am at Donohue funeral home (362 Waterloo St., London, ON). The family will leave at that time.

Additionally, Meike and Charlie would love people to come to their home between 1 pm and 3:30 pm for a reception. (436 Lawson Rd, London, ON.)

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her memory to Saint Joseph’s Hospice of London, the Salvation Army or a charity of your choosing.
