Obituary of Michael Frederick Kennedy
Mike Kennedy
At home, surrounded by his family, and with his sense of humour and quick wit in tact until the end, Mike peacefully passed away on February 5, 2022, at the age of seventy-seven.
Devoted husband of fifty-two years of Jane (nee Virtue), immensely proud father of Michael (Laura) and Brooke Sharrard (Matthew) and warmly doting grandfather of Charlie, Madeline, Evelyn, Sam and Abigail. Loving brother of Barb Thomas (Michael). Predeceased by his father Fred (1993), his mother Barb (2019) and sister Fran Loman (2003) (Ross).
Mike will be sorely missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann and Michael Bean, Nancy and Gary Bent, Jim and Denise Virtue, Ellen Robson, Doug Virtue and Liz and Joe Agro.
Mike cherished the friendship of his playing partners over the past forty-five years at his beloved Highland Golf and Country Club where he deftly parlayed a crafty short game into a few nineteenth hole libations. But only, of course, after his work was finished at his roofing business which he successfully co-owned and operated locally for over a half-century.
A voracious reader, Mike would startle everyone with his knowledge of the arts and of history and, in particular, his mastery of Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit questions.
Mike loved all sports, and kept a special place in his heart for his Cleveland Browns, but his greatest passion was watching all of his grandchildren’s athletic games and events at every opportunity. They will be forever inspired by his pre-game motivational speeches and his constant message to “have fun”.
Mike’s family will be eternally grateful for the extraordinary compassion and support provided by his palliative team of Dr. Hamilton, Dr. Howard, Dr. Dawson and Dr. Chettiar, Nurses Nathalie Robert and Florence Mahoro, and Personal Support Worker Ali.
