Peacefully at Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care on August 20, 2021. Karel VandeWetering of London in his 88th year. Karel will be dearly missed by his wife of 19 years, Rita VandeWetering. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 42 years, Harriett VandeWetering (2000). Loved by his daughters Doreen (Mark) O’Brien, Barbara (Robert) Giroux, and Valerie (Gabor) Sarkany. Proud Opa to Catherine, Madeleine (Patrick Vusir), and David (Vanessa) Giroux, Julia and Janine Sarkany. Karel loved visiting with his great-granddaughter Beverley Vusir. Survived by siblings Wilma (Harry) VanOs, John (Rieky) VandeWetering, Jerry (Joanne) VandeWetering as well as sisters in law Tina VandeWetering and Toni VandeWetering and brother in law Ollie Manning. Predeceased by brothers Harry, Peter, and Ted VandeWetering, sister Irma Manning, and sisters in law Doris and Rosemary VandeWetering. With gratitude to the 5th floor staff at the St. Mary’s wing of Mount Hope, especially R.N. Michelle and Dr. Luke. Visitors are welcome to John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street, on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Cathedral Basilica, 196 Dufferin Avenue, on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 10 am. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a limited number of people are able to attend each visitation and Funeral Mass. A private family entombment to take place at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Donations to the Alzheimer Society of London and Middlesex would be greatly appreciated by the family in lieu of flowers.
