Obituary of Terry MacDonald

MacDonald, Terry (John Terrence Ross)

Terry MacDonald, the very dear husband of Marie (Martin), left this world on Saturday, June 19, 2021.  He was the loving father of Maureen Jablonski and her husband Jerry, Steve MacDonald and his wife Sonya of Gibsons, B.C. and Neil MacDonald of London.  Terry was a caring father and grandfather who delighted in being with his grandchildren James, Patrick, Ava, and Graeme, and also with James’s girlfriend Brittany.

Terry is survived by his brother Ralph of Rexdale, Ontario, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.  He is predeceased by his parents Edward and Elizabeth (Walke) MacDonald, his brothers Charles, Aubrey, David, Leonard and Thaddeus, and his sisters Veronica, Theresa, Frances, Edna, Alberta and Eileen and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.  Terry and Marie often socialized with Terry’s many siblings.  They also enjoyed many good times with Marie’s sister Eileen Bliss, Eileen’s husband (the late Leonard Bliss) and their family.

Terry was born in the North Sydney Hospital in Nova Scotia on May 24, 1931.  After having 11 babies at home Grandma MacDonald needed a break!  He grew up in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia and was the descendent of Scottish, English and Irish settlers.  In 1951, Terry “immigrated” to London to join some siblings already in Ontario and to obtain better job opportunities.  After a brief stint at Van Raalte, Terry enjoyed 35 years at Kellogg’s, mainly in the Printing Department.  In 1958, he met Marie, “the Irish nurse from County Carlow” and love of his life and married her on June 18, 1960.

Terry liked the simple pleasures of life:  Being with family, swimming, going for walks, creating home movies / videos, staying at the trailer in Bayfield, having campfires, cooking, listening to all kinds of music including the East Coast variety, bird watching and enjoying nature.  Later in life, he and Marie had many opportunities to travel.  He enjoyed good relationships with his in-laws John Jablonski, the late Basyl and Tina Jablonski, and the late Maria and Silvano and their extended family.

Terry’s kind deeds and works will be remembered by family, friends, and former co-workers.  Thank you for working shift work all of those years, Dad!   A regular churchgoer, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Thank you so much to the staff at St. Thomas Elgin Hospital for giving Terry such amazing care!
