Alojzije "Lojz" Leš

Obituary of Alojzije "Lojz" Leš

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Alojzije (Lojz) Leš on March 6th at Victoria Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished friend, he was in his 82nd year.

Lojz was born on November 25, 1944 in Vodena Draga, Croatia. He was the beloved husband of Ankica Leš for 57 years, proud and loving father to Mary Ruddock (Jamie), Slavko Leš (Anne Marie), and Suzie Johnson (Matt), and a deeply devoted grandfather to Reegan, Ryan, Sofia, Brahm, Cole, Eliana, Olivia, and Nash. He was predeceased by his parents, Slavko and Dora Leš, and his siblings, Stanko and Danica and grandson Brandon.

In 1969, Lojz made the courageous decision to leave his homeland and immigrate to Canada, determined to build a strong and secure future for his family. Through perseverance and unwavering dedication, he built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. He went on to build a long career in the construction industry as a contractor, working tirelessly to provide for his family. His strong work ethic defined him.

Nothing brought him greater joy than watching his grandchildren grow. He could often be found in the stands at hockey and soccer games or in the audience at dance performances, quietly beaming with pride.

Lojz was a gentle and steady presence in the lives of those who knew him. Though he didn't always say much, his subtle humour would catch you by surprise. His love was steady and dependable, evident in the life he built and the family he cherished.

In retirement, he embraced a slower pace of life, especially enjoying winter trips to warm destinations, a tradition he looked forward to each year.

Faith and heritage were pillars of his life. He remained devoted to the Croatian Catholic Church and was an active member of the Croatian community, including Club Karlovac, where he served as treasurer for many years.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, doctors and community support who cared for him with compassion and dignity throughout his illness.

Visitation will be held at Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street, London, Ontario, on Monday March 9th from 1:00–3:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. during the evening visitation. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Leopold Mandić Croatian Catholic Church, 2889 Westminster Drive, on Tuesday March 10th at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
