Gleason, William Harvey

Peacefully passed away with family by his side, on Monday, March 2, 2026, Harvey Gleason, in his 92nd year.  Loving husband of Mary Lou (nee Pethick) Gleason.  Proud father of Mary Lynn, Paul (Stephanie), Martha (Dave), and P.J. A graduate of St. Patrick's High School in Sarnia and the  University of Western Ontario. Harvey  became a Chartered Accountant in 1963.  He then joined the firm of Clarkson Gordon until 1972.

Appointed Comptroller and Vice President of Commonwealth Holiday Inns of Canada 1972 to 1990 during that time he helped oversee the Company's expansion from eight hotels to 65 in Canada, the US, the Caribbean, England, Portugal and France.

In 1991, Harvey was  named Manager of the Covent Garden Market until he retired in 2004, seeing the downtown facility through a difficult period of political uncertainty about its future.

He served on many community boards and agencies including the Chairman of King's College, Brescia College, Catholic Family Services, the Community Living Association and the United Way.

An elected Catholic School Board trustee for six years in the 1970's he served on the Finance committee of St. Peter's Cathedral and was a member of the Msgr Feeney Foundation.  Always giving back to his community,  he volunteered for Meals on Wheels, St Joseph's Hospital and was  a volunteer with St. Vincent DePaul Society for thirty years.  He was an avid supporter of the Western Mustangs football team.

A true and kind gentleman, who dearly loved his six grandchildren, Harvey was proud of his Irish ancestry. He served as President of the Irish Benevolent Society in 1998.
