Sister Mary Eunice Hennessy, CSJ
The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada announces the peaceful death of Sister Mary Eunice Hennessy in the care centre at the residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 485 Windermere Road in London, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Eunice Theresa Hennessy was born on September 28, 1926, in Clandeboye, ON, and was received into the Congregation on August 25, 1951. She is remembered with affection by her CSJ Sisters, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Sister Mary Eunice formerly known as Sister St. Augustine, was predeceased by her parents Gertrude (Glavin) and Augustus Hennessy; her brothers Cyril, Gerald, and James (Mary); and her sisters Philomene (Joseph) Regan, Sr. M. Eunice, Mary (Benedict) Morrissey, Margaret (Clarence) Young and her twin sister, Bernice Hennessy.
For 36 years, Sister Mary Eunice dedicated herself to teaching in elementary schools in London, St. Mary’s, Windsor, ON, Yellowknife, NT, and Edmonton, AB. Upon retirement, she returned to London and ministered in the Guest Wing at Mount St. Joseph, served as sacristan, and volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospitality Centre. During her years in the care centre, her compassionate spirit remained evident, particularly in her devotion to her sisters who were dying, keeping vigil by their bedside. Sister’s world remained large, never forgetting those who requested her prayers. Sister Mary Eunice had an enduring love for our Congregation and her vocation. She never tired of responding to what God and the dear neighbor asked of her and did so with a generous, cheerful heart.
All services will be held at the residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 485 Windermere Road, London. Visitation on Friday, December 19, from 2:30 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 20, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
