The passing of Tony Piano marks the end of an era in our neighbourhood - Central Ave, John St, Mill St and St George St. in the North Talbot neighbourhood just west of Richmond and south of Oxford St. Tony was part of a wave of young southern Italians that came here after the war, including my parents. I have fond memories of the Piano family, Bivano family and many more gathering at my parent's home on John St. enjoying a laugh, sharing food grown from each of our gardens and making wine together.
Tony is the very last one from this time in our history. I, AnnaMaria Valastro, who still lives on John Street and witnessed all this comradery as a young child, will remeber these gatherings fondly.
