Obituary of Joseph Calabrese
Joseph Calabrese
October 4, 1963 – November 10, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Calabrese, a beloved educator, father, and friend to many, who left us on November 10, 2025, at the age of 62.
Joseph was born in Stratford, Ontario, on October 4, 1963, to Vittorio and Lidia Calabrese. From an early age, he demonstrated a passion for learning that would define his life's work. He pursued his education with determination and excellence, earning a diploma in Chemical Engineering from Lambton College, a Bachelor of Science (Major of Biology) from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor. His commitment to academic growth continued throughout his career, culminating in a Master of Education from the University of Western Ontario.
Joseph's professional journey reflected his dedication to education. He began as a teaching assistant and later served as a Professor at the University of Western Ontario, where he inspired university students with his knowledge and enthusiasm. He also worked as a coordinator at the Centre for Lifelong Learning, demonstrating his belief that education extends beyond traditional boundaries.
His true calling, however, was in Catholic secondary education. Joseph began his teaching career with the London District Catholic School Board, where he taught at various schools including St. Michael's and John Paul II Secondary School. His passion for science education inspired countless students to discover the wonders of the natural world and to approach learning with curiosity and enthusiasm. He was known not only for his academic rigour but for his genuine care for every student who walked through his school doors. Joseph believed deeply in the potential of each child and worked tirelessly to create environments where all could flourish.
Through his hard work and dedication, Joseph earned the position of Vice Principal at Blessed Kateri, before taking on the role of Principal at St. Charles School in Glencoe, Ontario. In these positions, Joseph's impact extended far beyond the classroom walls. Those who worked alongside him remember his warmth, his infectious enthusiasm for teaching, and his ability to make even the most complex scientific concepts accessible and exciting. He had a gift for connecting with people, students, colleagues, and parents alike, and his influence as a mentor to educators was profound.
Joseph is lovingly remembered by his three children: Samantha (James), Joshua, and Michael, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his wife Elizabeth, with whom he shared many years and the joy of raising their family together; his brother Frank; his sister Josie Vianni (Giuliano); his niece Giuliana Vianni; and his cousins Joe Tiano, Dominic, Vince, Mario (Tracey), Michael, and Frankie.
Joseph was predeceased by his beloved parents, Vittorio and Lidia; his uncle and aunt, Francesco and Maria Tiano; and his cousin-in-law, Bonnie Tiano.
Though his time with us was cut short, Joseph's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the students he inspired, and the educators he mentored. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitors will be received at St. Michael's Parish, 511 Cheapside Street, London on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 10:00am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00am.
