Obituary of Ben Thompson
Jack Lee "Ben" Thompson, 78
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Lee "Ben" Thompson-a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Ben left this world suddenly on Sunday November 2, 2025, with his devoted wife of 42 years, Linda Halligan, by his side.
Born in London, Ontario to the late Jack and Margaret Thompson, Ben is survived by his sister Vicki Granger and her husband Bob, nephews Matthew, Lee and Steve, and their families.
Ben lived most of his life in London but spent formative and unforgettable summers at Camp White Bear on Lake Temagami, where he learned to channel his mischievous spirit into leadership skills. He was a talented athlete, always finding ways to turn his size into a competitive advantage on the field. A gymnast in his youth, he also enjoyed playing football, baseball, and golf. After games, Ben would often entertain friends by recounting the highs and lows in vivid detail with his signature infectious laugh.
Ben worked for many years as a bartender and brewmaster at Barney's and The Ceeps, where he was admired for his leadership qualities and commitment to community.
At home and out in the world, Ben was known for his cheerful disposition, and he greeted each day, no matter how difficult, with joy and celebration. One only needed to take a short stroll down the street with him to understand how universally adored he was; neighbours would cross a busy street to chat with him, and there would always be multiple greetings shouted to him from passing cars.
Your understanding, condolences and continued support are very much appreciated during this difficult time. Ben leaves behind a legacy of kindness and positivity that will live on in all who knew him.
Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street (at King Street) on Saturday, November 8th, from 1:00- 3:00 p.m. All are encouraged to share words of comfort, stories, and photos in the family's guestbook.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Life Spin (https://www.lifespin.org), an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of low-income families in London, Ontario.
