Obituary of Drago Soče

Drago Soče, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 27th,2025 surrounded by his loving wife Marija and loved ones.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marija Soče and his daughters, Kathy Soče and Lucy Soče (Richard Bazinet). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Annie (Greg) Markett, whose memory lives on through her husband and children. He is survived by 5 grandchildren, whom he adored: Ryan, Loren, Aryn, Madison and Nora. He was preceded in death by: his brother, Ivan, and is survived by his brother’s wife, Ruža, and their children (Stanko, Pero, Šima); his brother Frano, and is survived by his brother’s wife, Ivanka, and their children (Jago, Dijana (Nidal), Robert); and his sister, Šima, and is survived by her husband, Gojko and their children (Mate, Desa, Mira); and his parents, Jago and Luca Soče. He is survived by his brother, Mile (Zdenka) and niece and nephew, Marcela and Mario; and his first cousin, Bojka (Marko) and their children, Joe, Luke and Stana.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he lived a full and meaningful life defined by love, integrity, and quiet strength.

Born on September 19th,1933 in Mali Ograđenik (Čitluk), Drago grew up during challenging times, which shaped his strong work ethic and deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. He came to Canada in 1960 to establish himself and his citizenship. He then returned to Croatia in 1966, and married the love of his life, Marija in 1967. He returned back to Canada and built a long and beautiful, fulfilling life with his wife Marija, daughters, Kathy, Annie, and Lucy.

Drago was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes—he led by example, offered help without being asked, and made everyone feel valued.

He was a member of St. Leopold Mandić Croatian Catholic Church and Zagreb Club, Drago found joy in being with his family and friends tell stories from back home and passing on the values, lessons, and memories that shaped his life. He will be remembered for his wisdom, steady presence, and infectious laugh.

Visitation at Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo St., London, Ontario, on Tuesday, July 1st, 2025 from 6 – 8 pm.  Funeral Mass will take place at St. Leopold Mandić Croatian Catholic Church, 2889 Westminster Dr, London, Ontario on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Leopold Mandic Croatian Catholic Church, and St. Stepan Church in Čerin, Čitluk, an organization close to his heart.

Though he is gone, his legacy of kindness, humility, and love lives on in all who knew him.
